It's #groundsweek in association with the @groundsmanagementassociation
Often unsung, always undervalued, we thank all of our fantastic volunteers who give their time to prepare the facilties at Grampound Road CC.
Grounds Manager Bernie Matthews works incredibly hard throughout the season (and beyond) to keep the pitches at Grampound Road amongst the very best in the South West.
His hard work saw him recognised by Cornwall Cricket last season as 'Volunteer of the Week', an understatement when you consider all the time he's given to Grampound Road CC over the years.
The reputation Bernie has brought to the club leads to us being regularly asked to host Cornwall Cricket Performance Pathway matches, County wide contests such as the Over 45 Cornish100 as well as prestigious fixtures such as hosting the MCC - along with a variety of others.
Although Bernie 'leads the team', he's supported by a whole cast of people giving just as much time and effort so we can all enjoy cricket at GRCC.
The Gordon Johns Award was claimed by Mike Gibbons last season in recognition of his many hours spent helping to prepare pitches (on top of his vital scoring work for the club).
Chris Willett, Martin Orpe, David Scott, Tyler Howard, Brian Pearce, Steve Dunstan, Mark Blake, Will Manuell, Ian Dean, Lewis Sanders... The list of people who have given huge amounts of their time to maintain the facilities at GRCC is endless. (Far too many names to individually list here - please forgive us!).
Whether it be painting the pitch lines on a Saturday morning or man-handling a strimmer along the hedgerow on a cold Wednesday afternoon in the off season - the contributions made to GRCC by so many people are what keep the club progressing forward.
So thank you to everyone who volunteers to keep our club at it's best and allow us all to keep enjoying Grampound Road Cricket Club.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
